Keeping memories

Later lets adults keep family words, photos, recordings, short videos and letters. You retain ownership of your content. You are responsible for having permission to record, keep and share it.

The free plan includes unlimited private capsules and memories across all capture formats, subject to available device and iCloud storage. You can create a capsule for each child or keep everyone’s memories together. Private iCloud sync is included; your Apple iCloud storage plan is separate from Later Pro. Private memories remain available to create, read, edit and export if Pro ends.

Pro adds Together sharing and syncing between family members. When available, messages to loved ones’ widgets depend on the recipient’s choices and iOS refresh scheduling. Eligible members of your Apple Family Sharing group can receive full Pro access when subscription sharing is enabled in Apple settings. Device, iCloud and shared-service storage limits still apply. Media limits apply to every plan. A private letter date is a reminder to revisit it. Family capsule access dates are a separate sharing setting.

Family access

An active Pro membership is required to create a shared capsule, invite people and receive new contributions. The capsule owner’s Pro covers invited contributors; they do not need a separate purchase. A Later invitation does not automatically join someone to your Apple Family Sharing group. Existing shared memories and scheduled opening dates remain available if Pro ends, while new contributions pause. The owner chooses whom to invite, when access opens and whether a person may contribute. Contributors may add memories and edit their own; the owner may manage all shared memories and access. An invitation can be accepted once and expires after 30 days if unused.

A scheduled access date is checked by the family service and does not require the owner to open Later. Access requires an accepted invitation, valid sign-in and a working connection to the service. It does not guarantee notification or delivery at an exact instant. Content saved only on an offline phone becomes available to others after it is uploaded.

Letters use separate iCloud invitations. In Later, recipients see a sealed letter until its opening date; the author can revisit their original. Optional key recovery and the limits of app-enforced opening dates are explained in the privacy notice. Removing access cannot recall downloaded or exported copies. You keep ownership of your content and allow the service to deliver the copies you choose to share to authorized recipients.

Lifetime Pro

Lifetime Pro is a non-consumable, one-time purchase of Pro access with no recurring renewal. It includes Together sharing and syncing for the capsule owner and invited contributors. It does not purchase additional Apple iCloud storage. The App Store shows the localized price before confirmation. Restore purchases to recover access on your Apple Account. Refunds and Apple Family Sharing eligibility are managed by Apple; a refunded or revoked entitlement no longer grants Pro.

Annual Pro

The App Store displays the applicable localized price, billing period and any eligible introductory offer before purchase. Starting a trial or subscription requires Apple's purchase confirmation. An introductory offer is available only when Apple determines you are eligible.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before renewal under the terms displayed by Apple. An eligible free trial converts to the displayed paid subscription unless cancelled in time. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Manage or cancel through Apple Account subscription settings; Later also provides restore and subscription-management controls.

Any trial-ending reminder in Later is optional and best effort. Use the renewal date in your Apple subscription settings. Refund requests are handled through Apple.

Storage and recovery

Local saving works without a separate account or internet connection. Later connects your private archive to iCloud when your Apple Account is available. Sync depends on Apple services, your connection and available storage. Sync can propagate deletions and is not a separate backup. Keep periodic portable exports if you want an independent recovery copy. App lock controls access within the app; it does not encrypt files you export or recall previews already displayed by iOS.

Usage reports and your choice

Later uses EU-hosted PostHog for limited usage reports and crash diagnostics to improve the app. The next app update after 2.5.1 (61) enables these reports by default when no preference has been saved, while preserving existing off choices. You can turn them off anytime in Settings → Help improve Later without losing any app features. Earlier releases use an opt-in default.

Analytics excludes your names, birthdays, memories, letters, photos and recordings. It uses a random installation identifier, not your Apple or family account, and includes no advertising tracking or session replay. Turning reports off stops new collection and clears pending reports on the device; it does not automatically delete reports already received.
